Meet Jay Clements, General Manager at Bike & Boot Scarborough
Our Scarborough hotel is kept in tip-top shape by Jay Clements, the General Manager of our seaside escape. He makes sure everything always runs smoothly and never fails to look after our guests.
In our latest Q&A, we caught up with Jay and asked him what a typical day looks like for him, the best thing about working in Scarborough and most importantly – his favourite dog breed.
Tell us about yourself and your role at Bike & Boot.
I’ve been working within hotels for over 20 years and have been living and working in Scarborough for over a decade. I’ve predominantly worked within the more formal and traditional hotels and restaurants. But, having grown tired of the formality and constraints within the industry, the innovation and vision given from Bike & Boot and its owners was a very exciting opportunity to me.
My role as General Manager here at the Bike and Boot involves working closely with the team in promoting and setting the stage for Scarborough’s newest hotel.
What is the best thing about your job? What do you enjoy the most?
The best thing about my role, so far, has been seeing Bike & Boot being transformed from a vision to physical reality, which customers and staff can experience and enjoy. In the short time we were open in summer 2020, we far exceeded all occupancy levels and the feedback we received was immensely rewarding for all involved.
I’ve loved being involved in this project and can’t wait to see what is in store for the future of Bike and Boot Inns around the UK.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Outside of the daily management requirements and core responsibilities required within my role, no two days are the same. Ranging from assisting with service in the Bareca to choosing the monthly film within our Film Club, my days at Bike & Boot are far from normal!
It must be pretty cool to work at a seafront hotel! What is your favourite thing about Scarborough?
Over recent years, it’s great to see further investment in the town and the opportunities and enjoyment that it produces for us all.
Scarborough is an all-round great town to work and relax in. From eating chips on the beach to cycling along the cinder tracks, Scarborough is a place you can take in at your own pace.
In my free time, I do enjoy when I can get out on my mountain bike in Scarborough and surrounding areas, yet I’m mostly dedicated to the new addition to my life and family – Mia Clements. She was born on new years day!
Finally, what’s your fave dog breed?
It has to be a Red Setter – I had one as a child called Paddy.
