There’s nothing better than summertime in Scarborough – it’s a bold claim but we’re willing to stand by it! There’s tons of stuff to do in the great outdoors during your trip, so you can enjoy the sunshine in all its glory.
We’ve picked our top summer activities to get stuck into this season, which in our opinion are the best things to do in Scarborough whatever the weather (we all know how unpredictable the British summertime is, don’t we).
North Bay Railway
A mini railway that’s packed with fun! The North Bay Railway is a cracking seaside attraction that’s fun for all the family (and your furry friends too – they’re dog friendly!). Take a ride on the heritage railway to take in all the scenery and history it has to offer. It’s also a more exciting form of public transport to get you from A to B without the kids complaining ‘are we there yet?’. There’s a picnic area with a cafe too, so you can stay fuelled up during your visit, all while enjoying a lovely al fresco lunch.

For a leisurely stroll, why not visit Peasholm Park? It’s the perfect setting for a picky bits picnic in the sun, with lots of space to set up camp for the day and do a spot of sunbathing, or let the kids run around. You can even hire rowing boats and pedalos to take a relaxing ride around the lake, or just to let Dad row in circles for a bit before he admits defeat.
There is lots going on during the summer months. There are free music concerts to enjoy on the bandstand, as well as a couple of cafes to purchase a wide range of refreshments from. If you’re lucky you’ll even be able to see a range of wildlife on your walks.

Soak up the sun and the culture at Scarborough Castle. Set on the beautiful Scarborough coastline, you’ll be able to take in the views while you explore the castle’s grounds. It’s the only place where you can get a view of both the North and South Bay, so it’s well worth a visit! Get a big lung full of fresh Yorkshire air as you venture through the historic ruins – there’s plenty to see, so you’ll keep yourself and the kids occupied for hours.

Hairy Bob’s Cave
What the heck is Hairy Bob’s Cave you may ask, the answer is – nobody knows! The origins of the ‘cave’ on the seafront by Scarborough castle are unknown. However, it has been the source of legend and folklore in Scarborough for over a century. There are many mysterious stories about Hairy Bob’s Cave – go explore it yourself for a fun adventure, you never know you might make a new discovery!

The atmosphere is always full of life, and there’s plenty of things to get stuck into that’ll keep the kids happy for the whole day – parents win! Even better, our hotel is just a 15 minute walk away, so don’t worry, you won’t have to lug your fairground prizes too far.
Coastal Boat Trips
Feel the sea breeze in your hair on a relaxing coastal boat trip. Not only is it a great way to kick back and relax, there’s also so much to SEE at SEA (did you see what we did there…). Scarborough’s coast is home to some much loved marine life, such as dolphins and seals, which makes a boat tour a lovely scenic trip out.
